Why it matters
Regional grounds run out of coverage before they run out of crowd
Most country showgrounds, sports grounds and festival paddocks sit on the edge of town, where mobile coverage is already thinner than in the main street. Add a few thousand phones on show day and the same cells that carry your vendors' wireless EFTPOS terminals are saturated. Terminals slow, time out, and eventually stop approving — usually during the busiest two hours, when the queue at a food van is longest.
The vendor mix makes it sharper again. Show and market traders are often casual sellers: produce growers, craft stalls, swap-meet sellers, CWA and school fundraising stands. Many have no terminal at all, and those that do run on the same congested network. Cash is not a nostalgic preference at these events — it is the payment method that still works when the tower is full.
There is also a pricing angle. Since the Reserve Bank of Australia's review of retail payments costs and surcharging, more Australian businesses are quoting a lower price for cash to avoid card acceptance costs. That only helps a patron who can get cash on site. Figures depend on expected attendance, trading days, distance and the number of machines, so both models are quoted per event. Patrons pay the standard withdrawal surcharge shown on screen before they confirm — there is no cost to your stallholders and nothing charged for declined or cancelled transactions.

Definitions
Terms show societies and committees ask about
Mobile ATM hire — a temporary, date-bound ATM deployment to a site with no permanent machine, delivered and removed by the operator, as distinct from a fixed venue installation.
Dual-ATM trailer — a self-contained trailer housing two ATMs, so two withdrawals complete at once and peak queues clear roughly twice as fast as with a single machine.
Service run — the scheduled route our technicians already travel to load and service permanent NSW machines. Regional event dates are matched to these runs, which is why lead time matters more outside the metro area.
Withdrawal surcharge — the fee shown on screen and accepted by the cardholder before a withdrawal completes. It funds the deployment and is the amount a revenue-share committee takes a share of.
Lead time — the minimum notice needed to confirm a booking. Ours is 10 days, because cash ordering, ground checks and delivery scheduling all sit inside it.

Either a surcharge revenue share, where your society receives an agreed share of each withdrawal and pays no hire fee, or a flat daily or multi-day hire fee for guaranteed placement. Both are quoted for your event before you commit; revenue share usually suits well-attended annual shows.
